Sophie Branson

Sophie was born in 2006 in Tokyo. She studies at the studio of Liana Tretiakova at the ZBSM since 2010. Sophie is a prize winner of the International Competitions in Geneva and Padova (Italy). She participated in the Masterclasses of Prof. Zakhar Bron, Maxim Vengerov, Alexandra Soumm and Sergei Ostrovsky at the Menton Festival and Salzburg Academy.

In May 2015 Sophie became a prize winner at the «Crescendo» International Competition in Geneva, where in the final round she debuted as a soloist with the chamber orchestra «Soloists of Neuchâtel» under the baton of Sergei Ostrovsky, performing the Bach Concerto in A-minor. In the same year she appeared as a soloist with the Pskov Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Arif Dadashev (Moscow) with concertos by Bach and Vivaldi.

In summers 2016, 2017 and 2018 Sophie took part in the Zakhar Bron School of Music Masterclass at the Menton Music Festival, where she had an opportunity to take lessons with Professor Bron and Maxim Vengerov among other well-known violinists. Sophie also had an honor to perform Vivaldi Concerto for two violins a-moll together with Alexandra Soumm. In 2018 Sophie was chosen to perform at the closing concert of the Masterclass at the Cocteau Museum within the frame of the Festival’s chamber music series.

In November 2016 Sophie enjoyed a successful appearance as a soloist with the Stadtorchester Grenchen, Switzerland. “Ten-year-old Sophie fascinated the audience by telling a story that had to be heard to the end,” wrote the Grenchner Tagblatt in a review of the concert.

In February 2017 Sophie performed as a soloist with orchestra in Geneva and participated in the Zakhar Bron School of Music tour to Siberia, where she performed Vitalis Chaconne with the Philharmonic Chamber Orchestras of Omsk and Novosibirsk. Other highlights of 2017 include the first prize at the Premio di Padova International Competition in Italy and a debut at the closing concert of the International Summer Academy in the Mozarteum Salzburg (studio of Professor Bron).

In 2018 Sophie participated in the World Premier of the Concerto Grosso iGeneration by Daniel Schnyder at the Trans-Siberian Art Festival together with Vadim Repin, Alexander Buzlov and Ilva Eigus, and performed Stravinsky’s Italian Suite with the Novosibirsk Philharmonic Chamber Orchestra. These performances received an excellent review in «The Strad». In August 2018 Sophie had a chance to appear one more time as a soloist with the chamber orchestra «Soloists of Neuchâtel», performing Vivaldi’s Summer under the baton of Sergei Ostrovsky.

Sophie’s second instrument is the piano, which she also likes to play. She has won prizes at the Zurich Music Competition and the Swiss Youth Music Prize in the piano ensemble category. Sophie regularly participates in the Masterclass of Professor Bron in Zurich and Interlaken and performs at the school’s concerts around Switzerland.
