«Paleski Ahienchyk»-Competition in Belarus

Two of our piano students of Slava Spiridonov, Liza Bondareva and Dan Blank, took part in the 3rd International «Paleski Ahienchyk»-Competition for Young Musicians in the Belarusian city of Drahichyn in early June 2018.

Liza Bondareva presented J.S. Bach’s Two-Part Invention in A minor (BWV 784), Six Variations on an Austrian Folk Song in G major (op. 42, No. 1) by Friedrich Kuhlau and The Witch from P.I. Tchaikovsky’s Children’s Album (op. 39, No. 20). She was awarded third prize in the category “Debut” (8 years and younger).

As a participant in the category “Junior” (9-10 years old) Dan Blank had to complete quite a strenuous program over two rounds. He first played Alexander Silotis arrangement of J.S. Bach’s Prelude in B minor (BWV 855), Frédéric Chopin’s Waltz in D flat major (op. 64, no. 1) and Sergei Rachmaninoff’s Italian Polka in D minor. In the second round followed the Sonata in D minor (K. 141) by Domenico Scarlatti, Edvard Grieg’s Lyric Pieces (op. 71, no. 3 “Kobold”) and Rodion Shchedrin’s Humoresque for piano. Dan was awarded a diploma.
